Ben Bennett

Ben Bennett has been making words his business for almost 20 years - as a writer and as a public speaker.
He has also been involved with environmental issues for many years. He was the creator and pioneer of the Enviropark concept, a venture playground for children with a water conservation theme, built in Collingwood in the early 1990s. He also laid the groundwork for the establishment of the town as a Green Community.
Since moving to Guelph in 1993, he has become involved as a citizen in transportation and planning issues and is currently representing Residents for Sustainable Development in Guelph at the Ontario Municipal Board.
Guelph Against Goliath (published fall 2001) tells the story. It was co-authored by Ben and his partner Gail McCormack (see the main page of this site). After several years working in the waste reduction and recycling industry, Ben has made promotion and  education -- and humour -- his specialty, and has spoken at conferences across Canada on the topic.
Ben worked for seven years for the Guelph-based Association of Municipal Recycling Coordinators. He has edited and has been principal writer for the AMRC newsletter, For R Information since its inception in 1990. He now publishes Product & Packaging Stewardship Review (PPSReview).
As a journalist in Collingwood, Ben covered everything from women's institute meetings to federal leadership conventions. He preferred the latter. Later, as a freelance journalist, Ben Bennett's customers included the Toronto Star, various televison/radio stations and magazines. A former town crier, and a past-president of the Collingwood Toastmasters Club, he has received several public speaking awards, mainly for humour. Indeed, a humorous look at life is the background for his
Never Underestimate the Importance of Corduroy Roads, which was published in 1989.
